The classic scam is just laughable at this point, and frankly if you’re under 70 and fall for it... I don’t know what to say. But this version I find completely vile. Not because it makes light of the pandemic, frankly I don’t care too much about that. IMO if a thing exists, there’s a 99% chance a good joke can be made out of it. But trying to make your way into someone’s bank account on the back of legit pandemic response is revolting.
I don’t know why I expected more out of someone who already revealed themselves as a chronic asshole, but... ( •_• )

What happens if you email them from a burner account I wonder?

Been considering it.
I for got to include it in the post, but honestly one of the motives for posting this was to give anyone who wanted it a brand new spam email

Crap like this is one of many reasons I’m glad I don’t work in banking anymore. Hardly a week went by without having to sit at least one elderly customer down in my office and explain why they should stop wiring money to people like this.

You forge t though, there are countless people every day that are just starting on the interwebs , have no history or knowledge of these scams, and are greedy enough that this will over ride whatever sense that they do have.

This was sent via fax. Which I suppose makes it more likely to find a target in some ways.
Doesn’t change my opinion. Standard letter - lazy “My First Little Con” DIY kit. This - still lazy, but also words don’t exist for my contempt.

Ooof... brutal.
So glad my older brother is a gatekeeper for most of my parents’ money (what little there is of it).

So many people don’t have someone like that, or did, and pushed them away because they kept intervening to stop fraud.

These are intentionally written to be obviously a scam, with deliberately bad grammar. The point is to filter out anyone with even a slight ounce of common sense, so only the absolute most gullible and naive will fall for it, because once they have their hooks in a mark like that, they can keep on squeezing them for all they’ve got.

I thought it looked on paper. From their perspective, that’s a niche target if they are hoping for a fax scam to work.
